PP tape

Substrate: PP polypropylene film (biaxially oriented BOPP) coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive (acrylic/rubber adhesive), which is the most common transparent sealing tape on the market.

✨Core Features

  • Advantages: high tensile strength, good transparency, low cost, moisture and chemical resistance, not easy to break, can print logos as printing tape
  • Disadvantages: The temperature resistance is average, and it is prone to softening when it exceeds 60 ℃ for a long time; Low temperature environment viscosity decreases; It's difficult to tear by hand and requires a knife/cutting machine
  • Common thickness: film 23-32 μ m, total adhesive thickness 42-60 μ m; Common Width 42/45/48/60mm

Two major adhesive systems

  1. Acrylic adhesive (regular version): UV resistant, not easily aged, suitable for storage and sealing at room temperature; Low temperature viscosity is weak, and there is a loud tearing noise
  2. Natural rubber adhesive: stronger initial adhesion, good low-temperature performance; Afraid of direct sunlight and not suitable for long-term outdoor use, heavy box sealing is preferred

📌main purpose

  1. E-commerce cardboard box sealing and packaging (most mainstream), customizable printing tape available
  2. Temporary fixing and bundling of light industry
  3. Cable industry: Non adhesive PP isolation tape (only for isolation, without adhesive), cable core separation insulation identification
  4. Pipeline anti-corrosion: PP cold wrapped anti-corrosion tape (butyl rubber, buried pipeline anti-corrosion)

PP tape vs PET tape (industrial comparison)

project PP (BOPP) tape PET Polyester tape
feel Slightly brittle, with a crisp sound when torn apart Slightly harder and more resilient
heat-resistant ‑20~60℃,High temperature is prone to deformation ‑40~120℃,Better temperature resistance
Price cheap relatively high
residual adhesive Ordinary style, easy to peel off adhesive residue Less residual glue, stable size
typical scenario Sealed packaging Electronic insulation, high temperature shielding, industrial fixation

Attention: OPP tape commonly referred to as BOPP/PP tape is the same thing.

Usage Precautions

  • Best operating temperature: 10-35 ℃, the surface should be dry and clean; Rubber rubber is preferred for low temperature environments
  • Not suitable for long-term outdoor exposure and high temperature conditions, PET tape should be used instead in high temperature environments.
