Ceramic fiber paper back adhesive

Single sided composite pressure-sensitive adhesive+release paper, can be directly pasted by tearing off the film without the need for additional fire-resistant adhesive, used for high-temperature insulation, sealing, and gaskets; The substrate itself has a temperature resistance of 1000-1430 ℃, and the backing adhesive is an organic adhesive that can be bonded at room temperature. It will carbonize and fail at high temperatures. The temperature resistance of the two can be viewed separately.

1. Classification of ceramic fiber paper substrates (determining ultimate heat resistance)

  1. Standard aluminum silicate paper: Long term 1000 ℃, classification 1260 ℃, universal version
  2. High alumina ceramic paper: long-term 1100 ℃, classification 1300 ℃
  3. Zirconium containing ceramic paper: Long term 1200 ℃, classified as 1430 ℃, dedicated for ultra-high temperature working conditions
Conventional thickness: 1/2/3/4/5/6mm; roll width 610/1220mm, can be die cut with gaskets and strips

2. Three mainstream adhesive options (core differentiation: temperature resistance)

Adhesive type Long term temperature resistance Applicable scenarios pros and cons
Ordinary acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive (standard) ≤120℃ Oven outer wall, flue outer layer, home appliance insulation, room temperature sealing Strong initial adhesion and low cost; Carbonization, detachment, and smoking of the adhesive layer at temperatures exceeding 150 ℃
Silicone high-temperature resistant backing adhesive 260~300℃ Outer layer of exhaust pipe, shell of electric heating equipment, medium temperature flange Difficult to flow adhesive at high temperatures, gradually losing adhesion above 300 ℃
Inorganic ceramic high-temperature adhesive (non self-adhesive, on-site brushing) 800~1000℃ Inner side of furnace door, inner wall of furnace, direct contact with high-temperature surface No self-adhesive, difficult to construct, requires separate adhesive application for fixation
Key reminder: The maximum stable use of self-adhesive finished adhesive backing should not exceed 300 ℃; When the working temperature exceeds 300 ℃, the adhesive strength of the backing cannot be relied upon. Mechanical edge pressing and clamp fixation are necessary, and the backing only serves as a temporary positioning function.

二、Core performance characteristics

  1. Easy installation: Tear off the release paper and directly stick metal, cast iron, stainless steel, refractory board, without slipping off the vertical surface, single person assembly
  2. Thermal insulation: The substrate has a low thermal conductivity, is A1 grade non combustible, has no melting droplets, and combines sound insulation, sealing, and buffering
  3. Flexible and processable: can be manually cut, die cut and punched, suitable for irregular flanges, gaps, and equipment shells
  4. Chemical stability: resistant to oil, weak acids and bases; Not resistant to hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali
  5. Shortcoming: The back adhesive is made of organic material, and when heated above 150 ℃, a small amount of smoke will evaporate; Long term use at high temperatures leads to the disappearance of adhesive strength, relying solely on the fiber itself for sealing

三、Typical application scenarios

  1. Home appliance HVAC: electric ovens, fireplaces, heater shells, insulation gaskets, fire door sealing strips, boiler flue outer layer sealing
  2. Automotive industry: Exhaust pipe insulation pads, turbine casing insulation, engine compartment fire isolation
  3. Industrial furnaces: furnace door observation hole gasket, flange seal, high-temperature pipeline outer insulation, mold insulation gasket
  4. New energy/electrical: insulation and isolation of heating elements, fire and heat insulation of battery modules, and wrapping of high-temperature cables

四、Construction standards (to avoid detachment and smoking)

  1. Surface pretreatment
The adhesive surface must be free of oil stains, dust, and dry; Rusting of cast iron/steel plates requires grinding and rust removal, otherwise the adhesion of the backing adhesive will significantly decrease.
  2. Paste operation
Construction at room temperature (20-40 ℃) is optimal; Roll press/press for 30 seconds after bonding, let it stand for 24 hours to fully cure before heating up.
  3. Precautions for heating up
    • Slowly increase the temperature for the first use, step by step (80 ℃ → 150 ℃ → 250 ℃ segmented insulation), to allow the organic matter in the adhesive to fully evaporate and reduce smoking;
    • Areas with long-term temperature above 300 ℃ on the inside of the equipment: the adhesive side faces outward (with cold metal attached), the fiber side faces high temperature, and a buckle/pressure plate is added to fix it, preventing the gasket from shifting after high-temperature debonding。
  4. taboo
Do not directly face the back adhesive layer towards a high temperature surface above 500 ℃, as the adhesive layer will instantly carbonize, peel off, and produce pungent smoke。

五、Selection and Procurement Points

  1. Surface temperature under working conditions < 120 ℃: Choose ordinary acrylic backing adhesive for the best cost-effectiveness
  2. Surface temperature 120~280 ℃: Silicone high-temperature resistant back adhesive version
  3. Contact surface temperature exceeding 300 ℃ for a long time: Do not purchase self-adhesive products, purchase non adhesive ceramic fiber paper, and fix it with inorganic refractory adhesive on site
  4. Size requirement: Long strip seal directly cut into rolls; Flanges and observation holes can be customized with die cut gaskets with holes

六、frequently asked questions

    • Does the gasket peel off after heating up?
Two reasons: ① Insufficient temperature resistance of the backing adhesive; ② Stick on the high temperature side, with carbonized adhesive layer; Solution: Replace with high-temperature silicone adhesive and use mechanical fixation.
    • Is there a pungent white smoke when heated for the first time?
The volatilization of organic additives in the adhesive backing is a normal phenomenon, and the smoke disappears after slowly heating and baking 1-2 times.
    • Will adhesive corrode metal?
Qualified neutral pressure-sensitive adhesive is non corrosive; Poor quality acidic adhesive will slightly corrode the steel plate if adhered for a long time, and neutral adhesive should be confirmed during procurement.
